The Georgia College Sustainability Fee Program was initiated in 2010 as the Student Green Fee to develop collaborative research between students, staff and faculty that will make our campus more sustainable and promote sustainable practices in our community. Each semester, students contribute a $5 fund to support these efforts. Proceeds from the fund are directed by the Sustainability Office and the Sustainability Fee Program, a student-led committee which solicits and reviews student /student organization proposals to implement and evaluate sustainability practices. This unique fund allows Georgia College student researchers an opportunity to develop effective strategies for to improving the environmental sustainability of our campus and local community. Alternative funding opportunities are available for staff, faculty, alumni and others who want to contribute to the Georgia College Green Initiative.
Please review the previously funded projects for ideas and inspiration. Proposal development workshops are available to help clarify the process and encourage strong submissions. The best proposals are collaborative efforts of students, staff and faculty, and include written support from all impacted parties. Proposals that address the strategic directives of the Sustainability Council are favored, as are those that will leave a lasting legacy of sustainability on campus. Grant proposals are developed and submitted on a first-come, first-awarded basis throughout the academic year.

Sustainability Fee Symposium
The Sustainability Fee Program sponsors an annual symposium as part of EarthWeek, during the third week in April. The symposium features student research projects dedicated to sustainability, and highlights different themes of sustainability in the campus and community.
Sustainability Fee Program: Grant Application Procedures
Sustainability Fee Program grants are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. This timeline allows students to collaborate with staff and faculty during a course project to develop their proposal, and then have time to initiate the research during the following semester. It is best to submit applications during Fall semester, before the fund has been exhausted. The application procedure requires an application cover form identifying collaborators, a research proposal including supporting documentation, and a budget sheet with price quotes.
